mexico treasures

Today I went to my FAVORITE store here in mexico. (or maybe anywhere?) It is a little hole in the wall that is completely full, floor to ceiling, wall to wall, with JUNK. wonderful, dusty, old, useless junk. I love it.

Here is what I bought:

Dumbland

watching the david shrigley animations reminded me of David Lynch's Dumbland.

here is episode one on youtube:
(warning: while david shrigley's animation was kind of cute and sweet, this one is definitely not)

Anna Schwamborn -- Mourning Objects

this chick makes jewelry out of dead people. Called "Mourning Objects", the ashes of your loved one is mixed with ceramics to make those lovely black beads, and the hair, is well, hair... fucking AMAZING!
I think they are incredibly beautiful, dead people or no dead people.

Book -- Mexico

book I bought at a thrift store in Mexico

marloes ten bhömer -- shoes

marloes ten bhömer is a designer featured in the current issue of IDN (vol. 16 #3)

on her website she explains how the previous photo re-stages Naomi Campbell’s toppling over on Vivienne Westwood’s catwalk. saying:
The original image has become one of the most influential fashion photographs, despite its depiction of something that went wrong on the catwalk and might instigate that the function of shoes go beyond walking.

backstrap loom

My one goal while in mexico was to build a backstrap loom. I gathered sticks, used a saw and a drill, it took two days, but I did it!! I am so proud of myself. It is surprisingly easy to weave on, though a little wobbly.
